Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Canadian Launch of the new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game, launching next week. The event was held at the Rogers Center in downtown Toronto and was hosted by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, Sony, and, of course, the Toronto Blue Jays.
The night started off by us entering the TD Comfort Clubhouse which sits comfortably behind home-plate. The clubhouse was decked out with ‘play stations’ equipped with, well, PlayStation 4s. Each ‘play station’ had 2 controllers so each demo of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens was able to be played cooperatively. When we sat down in the booth to play our demo we were greeted by the newest Star Wars toys provided graciously by Toys R’ Us, and we couldn’t help but play with them (yea I’m an adult).
Once the incredibly fun demo was over we cleared the booth to allow others to have a chance at the game. From the booth, my friend and I headed over to the buffet-style food setup that featured delicacies from Ballpark Franks to fancy salads and sandwiches. There was no shortage of food and beverages.
A bit later on we were called to one of the seating areas where a representative from Warner Brothers welcomed us and gave us a nice speech about why we were there and let us know that it was the 10th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (it’s been that long? Wow). After all the formalities were out of the way he introduced the guests of honor, the new Chief Toy Officer for Toys R’ Us, Emile Burbidge, and Pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, R.A. Dickey.
To close out the amazing night everyone got a chance to take their picture with Dickey and received a gift bag consisting of a small LEGO set and a game ball signed by the man himself. Then we all made our way to the field where a group photo was taken signalling the end of the prestigious event.
All in all Warner Brothers, Sony, Toys R’ Us, and the Toronto Blue Jays put on an amazing launch party for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now onto some game info.
Starting today the Demo for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is available to download from the Xbox Marketplace for all Xbox One owners. PlayStation 4 players will be receiving an exclusive Niima Outpost Demo which is also available now from the PlayStation Store.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is launching next week, June 28th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and PC. The game will feature original dialogue recorded by many of the film’s original cast such as Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, and more!
